Writing

For working on your texts: Claude asks questions, it doesn't interpret. The meaning is yours to find.

What it's for

Poetry, poetic prose, expressive writing, stories, autobiography, diary, novels. You can type the text, dictate it or send a photo of a handwritten page.

  • The text and its meaning are yours. Claude doesn't suggest meanings or judge quality, length or style. It asks open questions using the exact words of the text.
  • Faithful transcriptions. From a photo, Claude transcribes everything as it is, mistakes and repetitions included, and marks uncertain words as [word?]. It shows you the transcription before going on.
  • Each kind of text has its own path. For expressive writing Claude follows Wilma Bucci's method. For autobiography and diary it first asks whether you've talked about it with your therapist. For a novel it keeps a “Bible” and only points out possible inconsistencies.
  • Your style, if you like. A profile of your writing habits helps Claude ask better questions. It's only updated with your confirmation.

Claude

What are we writing today? And what do you need from me: reading it together, transcribing it, checking consistency, or just putting it aside?

You

I wrote a poem by hand, I'll send you a photo. Just transcribe it.

Here's the transcription, line by line:

I've lost my keys
and the [name?] of the street
but the way home
my feet still know

I'm not sure I read one word correctly: I marked it as [name?]. Is it right? Feel free to correct it.

You

It's “name”, that's right. Save it.

let's write a poem
The sea comes back every evening
looking for my shoes.
I don't have them anymore.

Claude

Thank you for letting me read it. One question, to begin: who or what is the sea, in this poem?

You

It's the real sea, the one from when I was little. But also the part of me looking for who I was before.

Claude

The real sea and, at the same time, the part of you looking for who you were before. And the shoes you don't have anymore?

You

that's enough, it's clear to me

Claude

Then I'll stop. Here's your reading, in your words: the sea is “the real sea, the one from when I was little” and also “the part of me looking for who I was before”. Would you like to save the poem with this reading?

At six in the morning the kitchen is the colour of milk. I sit and wait for my head to arrive.

Claude

“Wait for my head to arrive”: where does the head arrive from, in this text?

You

From far away. From where it goes when I sleep badly.

Claude

Would you like to add anything, or is that enough for you?

let's do expressive writing

Claude

Write for a few minutes about what's weighing on you, without correcting anything. When you're done, if you like, we'll read it back together.

YouAt the meeting I couldn't find the word. Everyone was waiting. I said “the thing” and felt my face go hot.
Claude

How was it to write that? Is there a precise moment that stayed with you?

You

My face going hot. Like when I was a child and got asked questions at school.

Claude

Reading it again now, what do you notice?

You

That it wasn't the meeting. It was that old feeling.

You

that's enough

Claude

I'll stop here. Would you like to save the text with what you noticed? And if you like, you can also bring it to the session with “reflection:”.

You

Seeing whether it's clear who's speaking

Claude

In paragraphs 3 and 5 two characters speak without the text saying who they are. How would you like that to come across? You make the changes to the text.

Claude

Before we begin: have you talked about it with your therapist? And are there periods you'd rather not touch here?

You

Yes, she agrees. I don't want to touch the hospital period.

Here's chapter 4.

Claude

I've opened the Bible for “The Lighthouse”. Just one thing to point out: in chapter 4 Elena is 34, but in the Bible, at chapter 2, she was 31 and two months have passed. Is that intended?

You

No, she's 31. I'll fix it.

Claude

I've updated the Bible with chapter 4: characters, places and timeline.

Claude

From the last sessions I'd suggest two things:

  • “often breaks the line after a verb” (observed by me);
  • “the sea, in my texts, is almost always the real sea” (said by you on 12/11).
Which would you like to add?

You

check consistency The Lighthouse

Claude

I've reread every chapter against the Bible. Two possible inconsistencies:

  • chapter 6: the lighthouse is “north of the village”, in chapter 1 it was south;
  • chapter 7: Tommaso knows about the letter, but he only receives it in chapter 9.
I double-checked both in the text. Are they intended?

You

The first isn't, the second is: he's already seen it in secret

Claude

I'll note in the Bible that Tommaso saw the letter before chapter 9.

What gets saved

Only what you decide, at the end:

  • my-poems.md: poems and the meanings you found;
  • writings/: poetic prose, expressive writing, stories, autobiography, diary;
  • novels/[title]/: the Bible and text of each novel;
  • writing-style.md: your style profile, only with your confirmation.

At the end of a chat: texts are saved at the close, when you say what to keep. Before closing, type that's enough and say what to save.
